Mike Miller and Shane Battier provided some firepower for Miami in Game 5, combining for 10 of the Heat’s 14 three-pointers.

Heat forward Mike Miller, 32, begins each game by hanging onto a rim to stretch out his back. Heat forward Shane Battier, 34, runs little sprints before the second half, loosening up, but also looking like he’s trying to trot off an injury.

What Miller stretched throughout Thursday’s Game 5 were Heat leads with his three-point shooting. Battier kept doing that thing where he pops up to be as opportunistically helpful as Thing in The Addams Family — a rebound here, a three-pointer there, taking a charge or two.

Miller got a standing ovation from the continuously-howling American Airlines Arena crowd when he slowly dragged himself off the floor, replaced by Battier with 4:50 left in the game.

Appropriate that they replaced each other a few times Thursday. Their superior role playing went a long way to turning Game 5 into the kind of rout the first four games occasionally threatened to be, but weren’t.

Oh, and, like their younger, more celebrated and maligned headband-wearing teammate, they got to celebrate their first NBA title.

Miller ended with 23 points on seven of 11 shooting from the field, all seven from three-point range, tying a franchise playoff record set by Damon Jones against the Nets in 2005. Battier ended with 11 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one charge drawn in 28:42.

The text message was swift and to the point, only minutes after ESPN reported that he had said these NBA Finals could be the final two weeks of his career.

"What!!!!" was the text message reply from Miami Heat forward Mike Miller to the Sun Sentinel.

A few minutes later, after he had the chance to get to others who had made him aware of the report, came a phone call.

"I'm not retiring," he told the Sun Sentinel. "I don't know what I'm doing."

"What I said is I guess I've got to figure out what is best for me," he said, stressing that the last thing that should stand as an issue on the eve of the NBA Finals was his future.

"This is not the time for that," he said. "And it's not something that I even know what's going to happen."

Thanks are due to everyone for participating in Mike Miller's "The Finals" Contest. Ultimate Pros is pleased to announce that Mike Miller has selected a winner to "The Finals" Contest. Without further ado, please join Ultimate Pros in congratulating the winner of "The Finals" Contest, BringTheHeat, for the post:

To be a fan of the Miami Heat, means you are a fan of courage, determination and never backing down. I've been a fan of the Miami Heat for many years now, and the level of determination and aggression this team has showed this year is mind boggling. The Miami Heat has been facing a ton of negative light from the beginning of the season. One would think all this negative attention would hurt the players of the team. But the Miami Heat are not an ordinary team. This team has bounced back and completely silenced all their critics towards the end of the season and into the playoff's. Many comments were made prior to the playoffs like the team couldn't close games, and the Big Three were not in sync. This Miami Heat playoff run has completely silenced all the critics.

So, why am I the biggest fan of the Miami Heat? I respect the hard work and determination this team has exemplified this season. The team as a whole has had to come together and be unified as one big family to get over all the harsh words and media attention being hurled at the team. Even players like Mike Miller, had to overcome their own struggle's with his daughter, and I am so happy to hear she is feeling better. The Maimi Heat know how to silence their critics. This team decided to stay quiet, and let the game results do all the talking. That's how you prove yourself. Arguing with people that aren't willing to listen won't get you far, but SHOWING them what you're made of makes you a winner.

The struggles that the Miami Heat overcame this season reminds me of my own journey of struggles. When I was in High School I had to overcome a lot of bullying related problems, and I did it. I am a fan of the Miami Heat because of their sheer level of determination, and the notion of never backing down hardwired into every member of the team. Those qualities are the qualities of winners. And at the end of the Final's, the Miami Heat will have won more than just a ring. They will have won respect from the critics of the basketball world.

Good Luck to the Miami Heat for the rest of the 2011 Finals. I'll be here to cheer you guys on!

With so many great entries, Mike Miller would also like to recognize several honorable mentions which are particularly noteworthy for their dedication, humor, and willingness to wear a thong.

I've been a heat fan since Zo came. I remember going to Heat games to see Zo, Timmy, Thunder Dan, and my personal Fav Vashawn Leonard. Throughout the years it's been collecting memorabilia, bobbleheads, 8x10s, and shirts. This past offseason I was driving my wife and coworkers crazy with all the rumors and he say/she say. This season I've missed watching 3 games due to something big going on but kept up with the espn app. Lol. Ohh! And during the playoffs I have to have a blood pressure machine to make sure it doesn't go TOO high. Lol

Btw... Best quote of the playoffs "JJ doesn't want to get into it with MIke Miller. He studies MMA. Not a smart move" lol

Ive been a fan of you since you were drafted, and i am watching you as i type this drain threes, but ive been a heat fan for the longest time, when i heard we brought you in i was so exited to hear so. Your not only just a three point shooter but your a good guy and a complete basketball player, and i think you were a big add to the team, the way you hustle also is unbelievable. Ive liked you since you were drafted to Orlando, and the big news came that you came to play for Miami. Witch is set a balance in the offense. And now why i think im the biggest heat fan even though i know there are many out there but in my opinion I think im the biggest heat fan. Well i vote for you guys everynight for them to put on T.V, i watch every day/night they have you guys on. I also havn't missed a Miami play off game. I've been here through thick and thin. When we won the championship to when we went 15-67. But i new we would get up again witch we did. and here we are playing in the NBA finals. I just think its just a great organization i love Erik Spoelstra as a coach. I love the players and the chemistry is just great out there. I think the fan support is just great that we have. You never see you guys really complaining. I'm also one of the only heat fans around my area, So when i wear my heat jersey i take alot of trash and after the NBA finals that we will win i am hopping to buy a number 13 mike miller champions ship jersey. Also i saw your video on espn congrats on the baby! and way to overcome the injury and become as effective as you are and always will be. But i wear it proud after every heat game. I know theres alot of these comments i just wont to let you know the work that you your fellow players the coach the G.M. do is very appreciated. I know were going to win the series and many more to come with your help and the fellow team. I think there will be many more to come for us i just love the squad we have right now and hope we can keep it for years, So keep up the good work, Thank you for your time.

By the way i love your all black uniform right now with the one sleeve. It looks really cool specially when your drilling threes over the whole mavs team.

I refer to Fergs as "The Big Dumb Animal". Although it is a fitting name, it really doesn't roll off the tongue. Please give me your suggestions. The winner will receive a personalized autographed basketball and the same wrist bands I wear during games. Thanks for you help! I have added a photo to help with ideas

Hey Everyone: My new site is up and it is a great way for everyone to keep up with my activities. I'll be active on Twitter, Blogs and Forums. Please give me your feedback and stay in touch with me via the site. As you all are aware, I'm now a Wizard. I am excited about playing back in the East on a team that has a shot at being really good. We get Gilbert, DeShawn and Brendan back from injuries to play along with a couple of All Stars in Caron and Antawn. Randy Foye and I are excited about playing with these guys and hopefully we can have a great year. I've been working extremely hard and am great shape. I am moving out to D.C. next Monday with Coach and Fergs. We are moving into a condo overlooking the Capital. I'll be there working out until the start of the season. I'm sure I will make make it to the Vikings Opener. Thanks, Mike
